Pastor: My Friends, baptism is an outward and visible
sign of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is through
this grace that we become participants of his righteousness
and heirs of life eternal. Those receiving the Sacrament of
Baptism through it come into the fellowship of Christ's holy
Church. Our Lord has expressly given to little children a
place among the people of God, a holy privilege that must
not be denied them. Remember the words of our Lord Jesus
Christ, how he said, "Let the little children come to me; do
not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom
of God belongs.”
Parents and children to come forward)
Pastor: We are
gathered here before God to celebrate life and the act of
God in providing a new family for these girls. This act
creates new bonds that God designs to use for God’s work and
purposes. We gather to affirm the commitments of new
parents, the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of
It pleased our loving
God to answer the earnest prayers of Jeffery and Melissa for
the gift of children. Today we join them in offering our
thanks to God for the gift of these girls to their family.
People: Thanks be to God.
Pastor: Jeff and
Melissa, you have received these girls into your family.
Will you love and care for them as your calling before God?
Parents: We will.
Presentation of Children
Pastor: What are the names of your children?
Parents: Mikayla Lei Washe and Teegan Cheyanne Washe
Pastor: Mikayla and Teegan, your parents, all of your
family that is here and even those who are not here, and all
the people of the church love you. They are so glad that
you have joined our family. But even greater is that God
loves you and wants you to be happy.
Today you are going to be baptized.
Baptism is one way that God shows you that you are loved.
Do you want to be loved by God and all these people?
Girls: We do.
(addressing Melissa and Jeff): Putting your
whole trust in the grace and love of Jesus Christ, do you
desire to have Mikayla and Teegan baptized?
Parents: We do.
Pastor: (addressing all the people, and especially
parents) And so I ask you, will you turn away from the
powers of sin and death, renounce the spiritual forces of
wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent
of your sin?
People: We will.
Pastor: Will you let the Spirit use you to accept the
freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice,
and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
People: We will.
Pastor: Will you proclaim the good news of God’s
unconditional love and live as disciples of Jesus Christ,
his body on earth?
People: We will.
Pastor: Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put
your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as
Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to
people of all ages, nations, and races?
People: We do.
Pastor: Will you
nurture God’s beloved children in Christ's holy church?
Will you guide them by your teaching and example to accept
God's grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly,
and to lead a Christian life?
Parents: We will, with God’s help.
Pastor: (addressing congregation)
Nurturing children is not only the duty of the parents, but
is also the responsibility of grandparents, aunts, uncles,
and the larger extended family.
Do all of you as members of
these children’s family and friends agree to offer Melissa
and Jeff and these precious children your unqualified love
and care, and to share responsibility for the physical and
spiritual nurture of these children?
Family and Friends: We will.
the Baptismal Candle
Pastor: May the light of God’s love shine forever in
the hearts of Mikayla and Teegan.
Thanksgiving over the Water
Pastor: The Lord be with
People: And also with you.
Pastor: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give
our thanks and praise.
Pastor: We thank you,
almighty God, for the gifts of water. Over water the Holy
Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through water
you lead the children of Israel out of their bondage in
Egypt into the land of promise. In water your Son Jesus
received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy
Spirit as the Christ, that
he might lead us through his death and resurrection, from
the bondage of sin into everlasting life. We thank you,
loving God, for the water of baptism. In it we are buried
with Christ in his death.
By it we share in the resurrection.
Through it we are reborn by the
Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we
receive into the community of faith those whom you have
called and justified.
Pour out your
Holy Spirit, that as Mikayla and Teegan
are made new creations through
these baptismal waters, we may preach good news to the poor,
proclaim release to the captives
and set at liberty those who are
To Christ, to
you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever.
Pastor: Teegan Cheyanne, I baptize you in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Mikayla Lei, I baptize you in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
L Laying on of Hands and Anointing
Pastor: The Holy Spirit work with you, that being born
through water and the Spirit, you may be a faithful disciple
of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pastor: Scripture calls us to anoint in the name of
Mikayla Lei, I anoint in
the name of Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
I anoint in the name of Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Blessing of the Parents
Pastor: It is no
accident that God has brought you together, for together you
can accomplish what you could not do apart. Together you
give these children the great necessities of life: the roots
of security and the wings of opportunity. With love in your
hearts, you collectively offer Mikayla and Teegan a blend of
security and nurture. It was love for children in general
which put you on converging paths, and now it is your love
for these unique children which unites you on the shared
journey ahead. We ask God's blessing on your covenant.
Welcome to Mikayla and Teegan Washe as they are welcomed
to our church family through the Sacrament of Holy
Baptism. They are the daughters of Jeffery and Melissa
