CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Let us worship a God of surprises! Too often, we are
told that winning is everything.
People: Here, in this place, we glimpse God’s reality,
that we must lose in order to gain.
Leader: Too often, we believe that freedom means
independence, that we are in charge of our own lives.
People: Here we learn again that true freedom comes from

Leader: Too often, we are told that we are what we have,
that wealth reigns and power rules.
People: Here we remind one another of God’s good news:

All: Let us worship a God of surprises! Let us prepare our
hearts to hear God’s startling good news once again.
*HYMN OF PRAISE "Lift High the
Cross" UMH #159
Faithful God, always ready to welcome, always ready to
hear, we come before you open to new faith. Disturb us,
so that we shed the old and grow into new creations in
Christ. Move us to deepen our discipleship, as you
reveal fresh challenges and call us into new identities.
Strengthen us to share in Christ’s suffering, that we
might also know the power of his resurrection. In the
name of Jesus the Christ, who claims us as his own.

hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
