Lighting of Advent Candle of Hope

Leader:   May Hope light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Hope)

Leader:   May Peace light the world this Christmas.

              (Light candle of Peace)

Leader:   As this season of “sparkle and bright” unfolds around us the transforming wonders of joy await discovery like shimmering sugar crystals on a favorite treat.

People:  May we create joy in all our surroundings,

Leader:   as we share gifts, meals, and simple pleasures with family and friends. May the easy gift of a smile
bring the power of joy’s touch to those we meet through these busy days. And may we experience the joy of this season as though with the eyes and hearts of children that we might be transfixed by power of what could be.

People:  May Joy light the world this Christmas.

*Hymn of Response                       UMH #211 (verses 5 and 6)

“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”

Invocation (Unison)

Holy God, true joy will never be found in tinsel and colored lights and even less in the excesses of this season. True joy is found in you and in you alone. Thank you for the gift of Joy Incarnate. Thank you for the Spirit who manifests your joy in our hearts all year long. Come, Lord Jesus. Bring us the gift of your joy and your life. Amen.

Praises, Joys and Concerns

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

*Dismissal With Blessing

We extend a very special thank you to Helen Hedderick for leading our musical message this morning
and her generous sharing of her gift of music throughout the year.  Helen, you are a blessing and gift from God.

We are doubly blessed with the musical gifts of Joan Miller.  Thank you Joan, for blessing us with your talent.

Mary, Did You Know?

Mary did you know

that your baby boy will one day walk on water?

Mary did you know

that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?

This child that you've delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know

that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?

Mary did you know

that your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?

Did you know

that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?

And when you kiss your little baby,

you've kissed the face of God

The blind will see

The deaf will hear

The dead will live again

The lame will leap

The dumb will speak

The praises of the Lamb

Mary did you know

that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary did you know

that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?

This sleeping child you're holding is the Great I Am.
