GATHERING HYMN “He Has Made Me Glad” TFWS #2270 (2 times)

*Call to Worship                                 --Based on Revelation 3:20.

Leader:   "Behold, I stand at the door and knock," says the Lord. "If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in."

Let us open the door and invite the Lord into our hearts and into our lives as we gather for worship and lift our voices in praise!

*Hymn of Praise        “My Hope Is Built”               UMH #368

*Invocation (Unison)

O God of all people, of all times, we are here in your house seeking your presence, in our time of remembrance. We honor those who have finished the race and have received their reward. But at the same time we come here seeking you, O God, who was a constant companion, a source of strength for those we honor. We, too, need your guiding presence as we continue our race. God, we pray that your mighty presence will be felt by all who are gathered here this morning, as we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. Amen.

*Praise Choruses                                                 (2 times each)

“Shout to the Lord”              TFWS #2074

remembering our saints

Scripture                                                                Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…”

Leader: It's not always easy to live the way God wants us to live.

All:         It's not always easy to do what God wants us to do instead of what our friends want us to do.

Leader: It's not always easy to find time to pray and read our Bibles every day.

All:         It's not always easy to tell others about our faith.

Leader: The scripture says there are people who can help us.

All:         People who can help us? Who are they?

Leader: A "great cloud of witnesses" they are called -- people from every time and place who have tried hard to live the way God wanted them to.

All:         That's the way we want to live!

Leader: We can learn from their lives how to be faithful to God.  Sometimes we call these people saints.

All:         Saints! Can we be saints, too?

Leader: Yes! Saints aren't perfect people. When we try to do the things that God wants us to do, when we love God and follow Jesus, we can be saints, too.

All:         Loving God, thank you for your saints in history and those today who help show us what it means to live according to your will. Help us to follow their example and to be part of your cloud of witnesses. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth,  as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
